Samsung UBD-M9500/ZA Review

This Samsung model is on the top on the fans list. Although its price tag is not cheap but even then the option, quality and flexibility it provides compel the users to opt for it. Design is very pretty with good looking deck and the curved shaped give an extra beauty to the player. The USB port is not on the front side like every common one rather it is on the side.  The logo on the disc tray is also removed by the company. Along the front edge are touch sensitive buttons which gave a memorable user experience. On the back two HDMIs allow the user to split video and audio signals which comes in handy if AV receiver is not capable of 4K signals. There is also a built in Wi-Fi. Additional features include Blu-Ray to mobile that beams 4K and regular disks to a smartphone. So now two user can watch two different things on the same player which sounds cool. The Bluetooth control and screen mirroring enables to send the content in both direction. The 360 videos can be controlled with a remote control however it does not play SACD or DVD-audio disk.  Samsung claims that due to no demand of Dolby Vision feature it is omitted. But it may be a breaker for someone else when the content increases. It also offers DLNA media streaming from PCs and other devices with a 192 KHz/24 bit codecs. It also provides a large number of online apps including Netflix, Amazon, Google play etc. All with 4K and HDR content. Samsung had used Eden user interface which enables greater looking menu and interface. The remote is also improved a lot the slim and less weight is a master piece. It loads the disks at impressive speed. When audio is discussed the digital only output depicts that the quality of sound purely depend on our system. So as a conclusion it has everything to offer that too in the most modern and efficient way.

The image quality of the player is good even it lacks Dolby Vision. Colors of the images are vivid and alive because of WCG support.

LG UBK80 Ultra-HD Review

UBK80 was released by LG in 2018. The design is the same as of UBK90 which is another model. It is a finished black box rectangular in shape and metallic cover on top. There is no front display which is justified by the budget. The front panel contains four buttons for play, stop, eject and power. Although the buttons can be made smoother and in line with the design but that is how LG likes it. Then there is a power LED which indicates that the player is alive. At the right of the front panel is the USB port which is not covered. A covered approach would be less dust gathering. All other ports are set at the back. At the back it has an HDMI 2.0a with 2.2 HDCP support resulting in 4K, HDR and wide color gamut. As there is no Dolby vision supported so HDR10 is there.  As there is only one HDMI port so all the connections are to be made with it. There is also an Ethernet port which is only used for firmware update due to no online connectivity feature. The time needed to setup the player on first use is almost none. If a disk is inserted it will show the type of disk inserted and similarly external storage device can also be attached for more custom choices. The image quality of the player is good even it lacks Dolby Vision. Colors of the images are vivid and alive because of WCG support. The up scaling capability of HD and SD content is excellent. 1080p content is up scaled with greater details and without problems. Audio performance is also encouraging and it supports all formats like DTS, Dolby Digital and Atmos etc. The disk load fast and silently and no noise of spinning of the disk. So excluding the Dolby vision the device offers great HDR, sharp image and vivid colors. There is also an option to select the sampling frequency. The remote is simple and provide all the options with nothing fancy. So UBK80 is the affordable and good performing 4K UHD player with good attributes.

Samsung UBD-M8500/ZA Review

The Samsung UBD-M8500/ZA is the first of its kind player which has a reasonable price tag and equipped with all the modern technical features. It can easily playback 4K Blu-ray discs with HDR resulting in the best video quality. It also contains a plenty of streaming platforms and the loading time is very efficient and short. The drawback is that the user needs an HDR capable television to experience the extreme video quality. Going deep into the specifications it is capable of playing Ultra HD Blu-ray discs, DVDs, CDs and rewriteable disks also with no support for 3D playback. It provides full 4K resolution video to be used with Ultra HD television. Standard Blu-ray and DVDs are up scaled to 4K. But it can also work on lower resolutions if used with such TVs. HDR (high dynamic range) ready for extended picture contrast and brightness control. HDR10 is supported. It is capable of playing high resolution music files up to 24 bit/192 KHz resolution. The distinguishing feature is the wireless support i.e. dual band Wi-Fi for streaming. LG UP870 3D Ultra High Definition Review

The LG UP870 4K Blu-ray player is a good exchange for the money. It provides best disc-loading speeds of any player to date and provide good image quality.

There is a time when every technology is destined to be a mainstream, so is the case now a days with the 4K Blu-ray players. A layman might thing of this product as a dump because it is not going to stream Netflix, Amazon, and YouTube etc. But seriously judging a player by the streaming services does not suits a tech man because Netflix etc. can be streamed on a lot of other gadgets you already had, this player has something else to offer. Considering the design it is attractive LG includes the control panel on the front side and the interface is typically identical to every LG device. At the back the connecting ports are minimal as can be expected with the product price. It has a single HDMI 2.0 port, Ethernet port (for updating firmware), digital optical and a USB slot. USB slot enables the user to connect an external hard drive full of favorite personal stuff and enjoy. The unavailability of Wi-Fi and streaming apps make it a backward but if all a person need is to play a disks at good quality then it is ideal. If an individual is purchasing a 4K player it means smart TV is already available so streaming problem is solved. The up scaling feature provides great ease of use and the player can run even the old DVDs smoothly and in good resolution and the player is compatible with different regions. It will switch automatically just after the disk is inserted. The remote is a bit disappointing as it comes with little sponge buttons not so comfortable to use as compared to the rival ones. Apart from the streaming services it runs the disks at a very good speed and quality and the loading time is impressive. Dolby vision is also not available in this product but as long as an individual only need to watch ultra 4K movies in a fastest loading mode and great sound quality bUP870 is perfect.

Sony UBP-X800 Ultra HD Review

Although more new players are available in the market but Sony X-800 is still in the market and grabbing the customer’s attention. It offers good playback quality and a solid design. When the price is concerned even Sony has X-700 more affordable with greater options and features. But new models players coming every day the rating of X-800 had gone down recently. The design is identical to the expensive players but the notable property is that there is no display on X-800.

The front view is pretty sparse and the disk tray hide behind a drop down panel. The visible buttons are only of power and eject but the buttons are too close to each other so there is a fair chance that one might press a wrong one. The remote is small and adorable offering home button and a lot of function including launching of Netflix etc. The features include 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray with 4K resolution and 3840 xn2160 pixels and provides better color depth. It also contain support for HDR video in the form of HDR10 but no Dolby Vision is included. The apps player options are quite large including all the best ones Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Mubi etc. So the player offers 4K streaming from the included apps and streaming services. Considering the disk player it has 4K Blu-ray, Blu-ray, CD, DVD, DVD-Audio, SCAD etc. It also supports DSD audio formats. At the back view no analogue though, it offers all digital with dual HDMI outputs, co axial cable, Ethernet, USB, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. So the device can output Bluetooth as well.

The purpose of the second HDMI is to pair a connection with an older version of A/V receiver. Considering the speed it was observed that Sony is slower than Samsung for almost 10 seconds. Although the player plays all 4K Blu-ray disks and others with good picture and sound quality. But it is the fastest player when it comes to the loading of Netflix. So in short aside from Dolby vision X-800 offers almost every feature with great audio and video performance, and it is better from the older versions in terms of DVD playbacks and nice design.

LG UBK90 Ultra Review

LG UBK90 Ultra weight 3.6 pounds providing super audio fidelity with a colorful and bright picture. The dimensions are 16.9 x 8.1 x 1.8 inches.

It plays UHD disks with Dolby Vision or HDR10 and also up scales the blue ray good enough. More future updates including more streaming apps would be great. The model works with 4K high definitions blue rays and the disk does not make any sound. The design of the model is sleek and simple. Sometimes during playback the player randomly stops which indicates a firmware update is necessary. The frame rate and audio sampling rate can be adjusted which is a cool option. Setting up the device is simple and easy. One of the amazing thing is that it converts PAL format DVDs to NTSC so you can use your DVDs brought from every corner of the world. The product claims to offer premium service providers but it only offers Netflix and YouTube no choice of Amazon and Hulu and no option to add any other apps. The device does not detect streaming from other network connected devices a physically attached USB is necessary for such streaming. It does not provide the flexibility of ISF setting (light and dark room). The controller is a bit slow but runs smoothly although sometimes the device reset on its own or when it is stuck the only way to recover is to reset it. The HDMI cable normally available may not be compatible for this 4K quality operation so you need to find out the specific 4K HDMI cable for the required results.

The sound quality is amazing and is compatible with DTS so when turned on the whole room is filled with quality sound giving a theatre experience at home. The overall picture and sound performance is good.
